I am forever inspired by the land and animals.
Natalie’s technique.
I try to capture the light and the essence of the scene. Since I have started using a pouring painting technique with a palette limited to the primary colours I am able to glaze softer washes with much success.
My early pieces were created by Au Plein Air which means drawing and painting scenes all out of doors; paintings “Camp 15, Reid Lake” and “After the Burn” and many others were created this way.
While my current artwork is created in my camper studio from photographs taken on an Ipad. In order to accommodate the pour , I needed to stretch soaked water colour paper over wooden bars which when the paper dries creates a very tight firm surface to prevent the paper from puckering from many layers of water pours. It is an expensive technique and very challenging.
I had learned to stretch canvas over wooden bars to paint in acrylic so this was fun and as a result artwork no longer needs to be behind glass. The surface of these poured paintings have been treated with three coats of spray varnish to protect them from light, and dust.
Living off grid, inspires me everyday.
